Artist Residencies
Residencies, Retreats & Test Space
We offer an inspiring, nurturing and grounded environment for artists to develop and test ideas and support connections between landscapes, communities, here and beyond borders.
We are committed to fairer representation in the arts and support emerging artistic talent with a focus on artist women and non-binary artists. We have four different Residency offerings – Funded Residencies, Open Residencies, Academic Awarded Residencies and Group Creative Residencies.
All Open Call opportunities are listed on the relevant pages for each type of residencies and are also shared on Southcombe Barn instagram
Funded Residencies
We work with arts institutions, regional grant bodies, trusts, foundations, The Arts Council and artists directly to provide Funded Residency opportunities.
Each year we have an International Women’s Day Funded Residency Award. The next Southcombe Barn IWD Residency will be announced in March.
Funded Residencies and Open Calls follow selection processes that are set out for each residency opportunity, and the selection process involves independent advisors.
Open Residencies
Open Residencies (self-funded) are possible throughout the year for artists looking for time and space to develop ideas or their practice.
These are Residencies are from three days to one month, staying in our beautifully rennovated barns with access to studio space, wild spa and sauna, apothecary garden, 16 acres of wildflower meadows and woodland surrounded by the open moor.
Academic Awarded Residencies
We provide an annual Awarded Residencies with our partnerships with Royal College of Art and Arts University Plymouth.
Group Creative Residencies
Open Residencies are also available for creative companies and organisations who need focused thinking or doing time for individuals or small groups.
It is also possible to host a day session at Southcombe Barn.
